Especially Poignant Remark

Rev. Warren said during his opening prayer, "we know today that Dr. King and a great cloud of witnesses are shouting in heaven". That sums up the entire day for me. What a miraculous event....... the Inauguration of our 44th President.

I was amazed that there was no reports of arrests or trouble with nearly 2 million people on the national mall. It truly was a happy day, everyone felt that. I enjoyed Reagan's view of the day. I will expect her to grow up and do great things,..she's got that way about her. Kudos to you and her dad!

The other night CNN aired the inaugurations of former Presidents. I watched FDR through Carter(who interestingly enough came into office with a 75% rating). From War to prosperity, terrorism (way back then?) and inflation, recession, technology, more war, Camelot and big government/less government. The speeches from all administrations were resoundly similiar. The goals the same. Our dreams consistantly unanimous, our stake in it does not change. Later, I heard a striking analysis of President Obama's run for office. That he ran on a set of "symbolic ideals" that enabled us to create individually, in our own minds, whatever we want of him. Any faltering of the campaign was in the platform details so details remained secondary. The Hope over Fear stuff. I did not vote for his policies. But it was a masterful, masterful run. And I am wishing him, and us, good luck. After all, we are talking POLITICS here. Or aren't we?
Yesterday, I heard quite a comment from an Obama supporter: He'll either be a hero or a zero. Shocked, I asked is there is nothing in between? No accomplishing some things successfully and mistakes that will be controversial? Like most other Presidents? Clearly, I am too much a realist. But, just as an aside, Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn as a senate hopeful. I believe her change of heart has little to do with Ted's illness. Rather, the people of New York, by an ever so narrow margin, went negative on Caroline, citing her LACK OF EXPERIENCE to govern (in the new CAMELOT?) Hmmmmmm, go figure.
